Meghna gas field is
located at Bancharampur upzila in Brahmanbaria District. This field was
discovered by Petrobagla in 1990. The total recoverable gas reserve of this
field, re-estimated by Hydrocarbon Unit, is 101 billion cubic feet (BCF).
Commercial gas production was started in 1997 from this field. Gas production
from one well of Meghna gas field was average 20 million cubic feet daily but
due to excessive water production gas production from this field was suspended
since 10 August, 2007. After re-completion of Meghna-1 well Gas production from
this field again commenced on 08 September, 2010 and till January 31, 2013
total 44.67 billion cubic feet or 44.23% of reserves has been recovered.
In January 2013, average 10.22 million cubic feet of gas is
produced daily from one well of the field processing through a Low Temperature
Separation (LTS) type process plants and supplied to BGSL system through GTCL
pipeline. At present average condensate/gas ratio and water/gas ratio of this
field are 1.87 and 0.483 bbl/million cubic feet respectively.
